Autism Proof Your Home...how about Boy Proof Your Home

Being the mom of three boys is like signing up for a never-ending comedy show where chaos is the main act. You find yourself in a perpetual state of picking up toys, wrestling superheroes, and wondering if the laundry will ever be caught up. It's a unique blend of laughter, mess, and a daily quest for missing socks – because, of course, socks have a mysterious ability to disappear in a house full of boys.

Embracing the chaos and finding joy in the unexpected becomes second nature for a mom of three boys. Early on I set expectations when I had 3 children in 4 years... they would be the best of friends and at some point, I would need to learn how to fix holes in the walls.

The time finally happened 15 years later when my middle child took a king size mattress and used it as a trampoline. He proceeded to run, spring off the mattress, and use his feet to kick off the wall, and twist and flip to make the landing.... Yep that happened on a regular basis.

One day, apparently his foot hit just right and went through the wall. He and his brother fessed up immediately. I secretly started laughing. Seriously it was about time. They did not even try to cover it up. My husband and I did not make a big deal about it. Then a few days later, I had a chat with the boys and was like - if you had covered it up with a drawing, I would have never known. They were so worried how I would take it and all I could do was laugh.

You see, I have 2 kids on the autism spectrum. If that's the worst thing that happened, I'll take it. Where's the mud. I'm sure some DIY video on youtube will help me out. This silly little hole in the wall was not Autism. It was the fact I had 3 boys. That felt great.

Recently I saw this article about reinforced drywall, for Autism-Proofing your home. I read it, and started laughing. Not because it's not valid, but because for once I had a situation that was because I had 3 boys, not Autistic boys.

Sometimes we just have kids. Not special needs kids, but kids.
